Car Batteries and Lawn Mowers
Albeit, there are many differences between your batteries, there are many similarities, both batteries:
- Utilize cells with lead plates submerged in an acid electrolyte.
- Discharge, and the plates become covered with sulfate and the acid becomes alkaline. As it recharges, the sulfate goes back into the acid electrolyte and turns it acidic.
- Can cause corrosion issues.
- Are available in a sealed, maintenance free battery. Sealed batteries are more expensive.
Battery Rates
Lawn mower batteries are rated by cold cranking amps (CCA), which measure how much current the battery can deliver for 30 seconds at 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Batteries are also rated by dimension. Most mower batteries are Group U1, which means they’re 8.3 inches long, 5.1 inches wide, and 7.25 inches’ high. Most battery compartments on a mower accept this size and will connect to the battery cables.
